“Royal lineage and rights or not,” a woman from the crowd says.  “Treason is treason.”

I can barely concentrate on the conversation being had.  I’m so hungry.  My eyes dart around the table, drooling over those sautéed mushrooms.  Dying for a taste of that buttered asparagus.

Suddenly, Ian stands and stalks over to me.  To my great relief, he has a plate in his hand, filled with different foods.  He sets it down in front of me.

“And who gave you permission to do so?” X demands, practically spitting fire.

I don’t wait for someone to rip the plate away; I’m digging in with my hands, ravenous.

“You expect her to defend herself when she can barely think straight from starvation?” Ian manages to defend me in a calm manor.  “You let her rot with nothing for a month and then expect her to perform in front of a jury?  Carefully, your royalnesses.  You’re starting to look like you don’t want this to be fair, at all.”

“You will-”

“Now, now,” Dorian interrupts X.  “This man has been cleared of any crime, released from prison.  His presence here makes him a guest.  Perhaps we will treat him as one.”

At once, she gains her composure back, throwing her hair over her shoulder, her eyes dropping to the table in silence.  She may be the King’s chancellor, but she was just put in her place.

“Before we begin,” Cyrus moves on, “I must warn you all.  Lady Conrath here is quite the actress.  She, for some time during my visit to the States, made me believe she truly was Sevan, our beloved queen, returned to me after so long.  While in the shadows, she was spending some very intimate time with our most decorated spy.  I had no idea for some time.  She hid her true feelings well.  So please, let us keep that in mind as she tells us her tales.”

The new HOUSE OF KINGS cover is here!

Alivia’s father left her a letter before he died, begging her to stay away from the King and the Royals. But it was a plea made in vain. She never could have run from this life, not when she might be Cyrus’ resurrected queen. The King has arrived in Silent Bend and with him, he brought the end to Alivia’s mortal life.

Uncontrollable bloodlust and an ever-shifting world rule her nights now. These twisted politics are deadly enough, but now her heart is the newest battleground. There’s no hiding from the one who hates everything she was born to, a spy who embraces everything she’s become, and a King who vies for someone she may soon remember.

The games have begun. The House of Conrath is growing. Blood will be shed, the bodies will fall. Alliances will be tested and old enemies look like harmless children compared to the new ones rising from the shadows.

HOUSE OF KINGS is available for download for only $3.99!

Excerpt
The details blur away and whoever it is doesn’t get a second to scream before my fangs sink into a soft neck.  They go numb and I grab them tightly to keep them from collapsing to the dirty, cold floor.
“You are a most excellent hunter,” Cyrus says.  “In that, you are indeed like Sevan.”

But his words are background noise.  I pull.  One long drink after another.

“And you certainly have picked a beautiful specimen,” Cyrus says approvingly.  He walks around the two of us.  And as my belly fills with the blood of this person, the heady fog fades from my brain.  I feel my animalistic side begin to ebb.  The predator is satisfied.  And the humanity in me returns once more.

My fangs instantly retract.  The individual I’m holding onto collapses to the ground as I let go and take five horrified steps away.

It’s a woman.  She’s young, probably no more than a year or two older than myself.  Her eyes are closed, blood running down her neck from the two puncture wounds.  Her face is beautiful yet intimidating.  Harsh cheekbones, a square, sharp jawline.  Long brunette hair, lighter than my own, falls around her in soft waves.

“You need not feel ashamed, my dear,” Cyrus says as he crosses to me and pulls me into his arms.  “This is what our kind does.  It is our instinct and without following it, we experience something worse than death.  Do not be regretful for what you are.”

But my eyes stay staring at the woman, wide and horrified.  This is my third victim.  And I can’t seem to help it.  My thirst takes over and I kill.

I kill innocent people.

I watch as all the color leaves the woman’s face, she grows white and her lips look blue.
“Come,” Cyrus says.  He releases me, but holds onto my hand and pulls me toward the door once more.  “Let us finish the delicious meal you prepared for us and think of this no more.”

The new HOUSE OF PAWNS cover is here!

The town of Silent Bend is about to explode into a war. Alivia swore to take the House from Jasmine after what she did, but it won’t happen without retaliation. The whole town is caught in the crosshairs of their manipulation and the body count is climbing.

The explanation for Ian’s change is one he just can’t accept. To Alivia, it should fix all their problems, but Ian has become everything he hates most. And Liv accepting her fate and position will test their relationship to the breaking point.

The threat of the King’s arrival looms just weeks away, and Alivia knows he will kill her as soon as he comes. She’ll need supporters at her side—immortal ones. And that means turning old enemies into loyal subjects…

HOUSE OF PAWNS is only $3.99 to download!

Excerpt

“You will never take them all,” Jasmine hisses, her eyes gleaming.  “You know nothing of what it takes to rule a House of vampires.”

“It seems you don’t either, or at least that’s what Samuel, the son of the man who ruled for over a century, said,” I breathe.  I am very aware that Jasmine can move fifty times faster than I.  That she could twitch her arm and break my neck.  She could crush my skull and squeeze my brain.  But there is too much adrenaline coursing through my body right now.

And I love how it feels.

“And I suggest you think about the numbers for a moment,” I continue.  “I’ve not even tried, and already in a week and a half you’ve lost twenty-five percent of your pawns.  I call checkmate within three months.”

She shoves me away, nearly knocking me to the ground.

I don’t act scared, or alarmed at loosing my balance.  I simply right myself.  From my pocket, I pull an envelope that contains the invitation to my party and place it on the splintered table in the foyer.

I turn for the door and open it.  “You need to consider your actions very carefully, Jasmine,” I say to her, and I am sincere and honest.  “I am not some silly girl you can manipulate.”

Alivia Ryan didn’t know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.

Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met, and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives—Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.

In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented King and the legend of his resurrecting Queen hang over everyone’s heads, and proving loyalty means far more than blood. You’d better watch who you trust in this town…

Excerpt

“What are you doing here?” he hisses, pulling me close.  His lips tickle my ear.  His hand on my waist slips low and his fingers dig into my skin just a little.

The breath catches in my chest and every nerve ending in my body goes crazy.  The music surges, and this night suddenly feels too big for me to breathe.

“I’m not lying down and taking a fate I didn’t ask for,” I manage.  My fingers cling hard to Ian’s shoulder.  I can feel the muscles beneath his clothes tense and tighten.  And suddenly I’m back to the days at his cabin, when he’d come walking out of the shower with only a towel and I pretended not to look.  I know what his bare skin looks like, and suddenly I’m craving another glimpse.

“They won’t care about a show of good faith,” he says.  “Do you have any idea what this party is even for?”

My silence is his answer.

“They throw this party once a year and offer massive amounts of alcohol so that people won’t remember the blackouts that come from behind fed on.”

My eyes dart to that door at the back of the room.  The blood on the woman’s shoulder.  The blood in the corner of the man’s mouth.

“They’re feeding on the party attendees,” I say.

Ian nods.  His scratchy cheek brushes mine.  “The bite numbs and makes you forget, but people tend to realize they blacked out.  A party like this with this much booze, you brush it off.  It’s the one time a year they feed freely upon the townspeople.  It’s the only way to keep people from asking too many questions.”

It’s terrifying and horrifying, and I’m suddenly wondering if the man was asking me to dance as my turn to be fed upon.

“It’s bad, but I have to do something Ian,” I breathe.

“Walking into the fire isn’t the way to do it,” he whispers into my ear.

I back away just slightly, just so I can look into his eyes.  There’s intensity there.  Enough of it to melt me clean through.

“It isn’t your job to protect me,” I say quietly as my eyes drift down to his mouth.  “I saw you that night.  You were supposed to be sleeping.  But you were watching over me.  You can’t keep doing that.”

“I can’t seem to help it,” he says as his brows furrow.

The music starts to swell toward the end.  It’s the last song of the night.  Everyone seems to know it.  I can feel it.  Surging and surging, pushing me to an unknown finish.

“I have to do this,” I say.  I start to step away from Ian, toward the Royals that aren’t Royals.  “I won’t be pushed around.”

“Stay,” he breathes.

“I can’t.”  I take one step back, turning away from Ian.

“Liv, don’t,” Ian pleads.  “Just look at me.”  Not too gently, he pulls me back toward him.
And suddenly his arms are around me, pulling my center to his and our bodies explode in human passion as they collide and his mouth is on mine.  And all the fighting and training and bantering we’ve been doing climaxes into something I can’t explain and don’t ever want to come to a conclusion.

Ian’s lips part and so do mine.  Even as his breath gathers to say things I can’t do.  “Just leave with me.  Now.  Just walk away.”

I give him one final kiss, feeling more alive than I ever have before, yet feeling like a sinking ship.  And I pull away.  Because I know I cannot give him what he wants.

“I have to do this, and you have to let me.”  A million emotions are running rampant in me and I’m not prepared to deal with a single one.

Because Ian and I have been circling one another in close orbit.  We have gravitational pull on each other that can’t be explained by logic and reason.  And I’ve always known, from the moment Ian decided not to kill me, that one day we would collide.

Sometimes fate deals you the horrible and the incredible.  We can’t run from either.
I take a step away from him, but Ian holds onto my hand.  I take another step, and millimeter by millimeter, our fingers slip apart.  Then I’m gone, and Ian is still standing there in the middle of the ballroom, watching me run into the middle of a pack of wolves.

ABOUT CRUSHED:

Release Date: August 4, 2015
Genre: Young Adult
Series: The Witch Game Novels
Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing

The Noah girls have beauty, powers, and brains.
They use all three to play their games.
They blow the dust,
the boys are crushed,
and no one is ever the same.

Each year the Noah girls play a secret game— Crushed. The rules are simple.

1. Use wisdom to pick your target. The boy can't be too weak or too strong-willed.
2. Blow the enchanted dust into your target's face to enchant (Crush) him.
3. Give verbal commands and assign them tasks to perform throughout the year. The more tasks completed, the stronger the witch's power grows.
4. At the end of the year, the witch with the most power wins cold, hard cash.

As if being a witch in high school isn't complicated enough, Kristen picks the wrong boy to Crush. Zack is tall, handsome, and a little scary. Her Crush spell isn't working on him like it has with the others. In fact, he is behaving the opposite of every other boy she's Crushed, hating her instead of adoring her. Something is definitely wrong. After someone attempts to kill her, Kristen realizes there is more at risk than a few hundred dollars. She may be betting with her life.

READ AN EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

She wanted his jacket?

Zach blinked at her, completely thrown by her softly spoken command. The little witch had obviously lost her mind. He didn’t like for anyone to touch his jacket, let alone wear it. It had been the last gift his mother had given him before she died. Kristen Noah could pry it out of his cold, lifeless fingers if she wanted it. He certainly wasn’t handing it over to her like an idiot.

He’d planned to play along with her silly game, but now he didn’t think he could. He wasn’t going to pretend to date her. She was taking things a little too far. If she continued to push, he was going to push back.

Gina spoke in a loud, cutting voice. “You are not dating Bevian, you total loser. What a joke! He wouldn’t touch something like you with gloves on.”

“He is my boyfriend!” She looked directly at Zach, locked eyes with him, and repeated the command. She seemed to be trying her best to keep it from sounding like an order, but that’s exactly what it was, and they both knew it. “We can let everyone know we’re together now, be a real couple just like we talked about. Give me your jacket.”

There was a quiet desperation in her wide eyes along with a heavy fear that made him think of Morgan. That was the only thing about this girl that reminded him of his sister. For the first time he noticed Kristen Noah—really noticed her. She wasn’t his type, not really, but there was something extraordinary about her.

Her golden hair fell over her shoulders in soft waves and it shimmered in the sun, producing a halo effect around her head. She had wide, generous lips that seemed to curve at the ends in a secretive smile even when she wasn’t happy, and her eyes seemed to change color with her moods. At the moment, they were a stormy grey, dark like a thundercloud.

Then there was her body.

Her sisters were too skinny for his taste, but Kristen had nice curves exactly where they should be. He wondered what it would feel like to hold her close and kiss her. She had a reputation for being tough as leather when it came to the opposite sex. The girl could take care of herself. Would she want to dominate the kiss or would she melt like ice cream on a hot day?

What was he thinking?

Kristen Noah was the most selfish, heartless witch he’d ever stumbled over. There was no way he was attracted to her. She played games with people’s emotions. He was a firm believer in ‘what goes around, comes around.’ The universe should be ready to take her down a notch… and if not, then he would be glad to help the universe out.

Everyone stared at him, obviously waiting for him to confirm or deny.

All eyes were on him, forcing him to make a quick decision.

Zach shrugged out of the jacket. He would play along… for now. He walked around Kristen Noah and placed the jacket on her shoulders. Then he continued around until he was standing in front of her. Taking both sides of the jacket in his hands, he pulled them together.

She stared at him with wide, unblinking eyes. The distrust in them was like a neon sign. She had expected him to blow her dreams apart. In fact, she still seemed to be waiting for him to pull the proverbial rug out from under her.

She’s waiting for me to smack her down, he thought with a tinge of satisfaction. He wished he could do it, flatten her on the spot, but Morgan’s face floated through his mind. He had to protect his sister no matter what it cost him.

“It looks good on you.” He almost choked on the words.

Relief stole over her features. “Thank you.”

“No way,” Gina said, shaking her head. “I don’t believe it. This is a set-up. No way have you been dating him without everyone in the school knowing about it.”

Kristen shrugged as she snuggled close to him, arm around his waist. She relaxed against his side and played her part to the hilt. A smug smile parted her lips. “I guess we’re better at hiding our feelings than most.”

Left without a choice, Zach draped an arm around her shoulders as if he’d done it a million times. He hated giving into her. The arm around her showed they were together, but his hand dangled on the other side rather than touch her. It was a small display of rebellion, one he was sure no one would notice.

The crowd had grown to about a quarter of the school. Several students began to text the juicy news to their friends. Others blatantly started calling people. A few used their camera phones to take pictures of Kristen in Zach’s arms. She smiled for the photos.

Zach didn’t smile. His jaw tightened instead. There were grenades exploding inside of his stomach. If he didn’t squelch his temper fast, a massive quake would turn the parking lot into a giant sinkhole. He took a few deep, slow breaths. His hands itched to rip the little witch’s head off. She was going to be very sorry she’d picked him to mess with.

Gina’s eyes reluctantly shifted to Zach. He recognized the fear and awe in her gaze. It was the look he’d worked hard to receive from his fellow Titan Warriors. She swallowed, obviously uncomfortable in confronting him, but her notorious hatred for Kristen pushed her to the extreme. Last year he’d watched this girl make problems for the little witch, and he had secretly cheered her on. They were on the same side, but he couldn’t let that show.

“When did this happen?” Gina asked. She stared straight into his eyes, demanding answers. “Why do you glare at her all the time if you’re dating? It doesn’t make any sense. Why would you date her when you only date older women? What is so special about her?”

Kristen Noah is a witch! The words waited at the back of his throat. He wanted to shout them at the top of his lungs. Hands clenched, he took another deep breath. It would be so easy to let go and yell the accusation, but then someone would alert the council. Witches weren’t accused that often these days. They’d become geniuses at hiding in plain sight. So when it happened, the council demanded every last detail. If he accused her of being a witch, the council would discover his secret, and Morgan would die.

Even if it cost him his sanity, he had to keep his mouth shut.

He hit Gina with a hard glare, turning his fury on her since he couldn’t blast Kristen with it. The dark-haired girl folded in an instant. He imagined she was remembering the stories about him blowing up houses and killing people. Her survival instinct won out over her hatred for Kristen.

She stormed off without another word.

Zach’s murderous stare went to the spectators. Laughter died. Smiles faded. The kids scattered like cockroaches at night when the light is turned on. Unfortunately that left him alone with Kristen, his arm still around her shoulders. What now? What was he supposed to do in order to keep up the charade? How would an ‘enchanted’ boy act under these circumstances?

Kristen sighed, a wistful sound. She rested her head against his shoulder for a moment. The small token of intimacy pushed him over the edge. He couldn’t do it. There was no way in hell that he was going to be nice to this little witch.

He stepped aside, and she lost her balance. She almost fell. Almost. When she looked up at him with a question in her eyes, he grabbed the jacket sleeve closest to him and gave it a vicious yank, stripping the jacket off her in one quick motion.

She gasped.

He walked away, leaving her to stare after him while mentally giving himself a point on the invisible scoreboard in his mind. Bevian-1. Noah-0.

ABOUT KASI BLAKE:

If you ask Kasi Blake how old she was when she started writing, she will probably say twelve. That's when she wrote her first short story. But it started long before then. Her first characters were invisible friends she played with as a child. In the third grade she wrote a one-page story about a mummy for an assignment, and the teacher read it to the class. Even though she was embarrassed, the other kids laughed in all the right places, and she realized she could affect other people through her writing. She loves to get lost in emotional stories, crying and laughing with the characters, so she thinks it's the most amazing thing in the world to be able to do this for other people.

Kasi is a hardcore Supernatural fanatic and practically has the shows memorized line for line. If you want to see her freak out, tell her you've never watched an episode. Then be prepared to listen to a long list of reasons why you should. In her spare time, when she's not reading or writing, she does nail art, engages in day-long shopping trips with friends, and takes care of her many animals.

Originally from California, she resides in the Midwest on a farm with cows, chickens, ducks, a dog, and two cats.

Hellhound Series by Rue Volley - Cover Reveals!

Help us celebrate the cover reveal for the new FANTASY covers of the Hellhound series!

Hellhound first hit the publishing world in October of 2013. Book one sat on the bestsellers list for over 11 months as three other books followed in the series. Fans drove each book onto the best sellers list as they devoured the story line and became addicted to the Hellhounds.

The story begins with our protagonist, Halo Bay, in a struggle for her life. She has always had bad luck with men, but the violence spills over as she defends herself from her abusive boyfriend of five years. She is forced to kill him in self-defense, but before she is able to incapacitate him he stabs her in the side. With her adrenaline rush fading, she falls to the floor and starts to lose consciousness. In these final moments she asks for forgiveness, even though she was the one who was attacked. This need to be absolved of her sin will change her life forever.

She wakes up in a strange place, darkness and whispers surrounding her. Then the memories flood back, engulfing her senses and bringing her to her knees. She had murdered him…the weight of it all takes her breath away but just as she feels completely overwhelmed a hand reaches out from the darkness and pulls her into the light. It is Gunner, a Roman, a warrior…the first Hellhound.

Halo is given two choices. She can either sew her eyes and mouth shut and wander around purgatory forever or follow Gunner to hell and train to defend humanity against the demons who rise.

Which will she choose?
