When the past comes charging back, the choice is never easy.

Abused as a child, Willow Conrad has managed to develop compassion for others early in life. She believes there is some good in every person, even in the “lost souls”. But when Seth, her boyfriend, loses his temper one last time, she is left badly beaten and broken inside.

Jack McCoy has finally grown up. He used to engage in street brawls to release his anger and reassure himself of his own worth. Serving in the Marine Corps and then becoming a firefighter has put his life back on track.

When Jack’s friend asks him to help Willow, he doesn’t hesitate, despite a reckless predicament he n...arrowly escaped that very evening. But when he stands face-to-face with Willow, he knows his past is back to haunt him.

Will they take the second chance and let not-so-forgotten feelings resurface and blossom, moving past what drove them apart before? Or will Jack relapse into his destructive ways and lose Willow forever?

One fateful morning changes everything.

Lisbeth Anderson, the lone eyewitness of a shocking murder, believes the FBI witness protection program may be the only way for her to survive. But when a powerful explosion reduces the safe house to ashes, killing all of the FBI agents on duty, will she turn to a perfect stranger for help?

Ethan McCoy, a former-Marine-turned-firefighter, has never really cared for any woman. He lives his life to the fullest, enjoying the bad boy stigma and cultivating a particular taste for dominant sex. Girls come and go, allowed to stay only long enough to satisfy Ethan’s wild appetite.

One morning at dawn, Ethan’s fire brigade is called to a fatal house explosion that levels the structure. When he pries open a trap door to the hidden panic room under the house, he finds a gorgeous, though disheveled brunette. Lisbeth instantly turns Ethan’s world upside down, and he’s overcome by the burning desire to protect her, no matter the consequences.

Reclaim Me by A.O. Peart - Release Day Scavenger Hunt!

***** RECLAIM ME EXCERPT; COMING 12/22 *****

Meet Jack and Willow.
*please note - this is an unedited excerpt.

His expression slowly transformed from that of expectation to delight to relief. It was fascinating to me to see such a range of feelings from Jack, because the Jack I knew in the past has never seemed so candid.

“How about you, Jack?” I asked. It wasn’t a trick question, although it sounded like one.
He gave me a curious glance. “You wanna know what my motives are?”

Jack put his fork down and leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms behind his head with his hands clasped together, his expression changing again—this time to introspective.

His biceps bulged, stretching the short sleeves of his t-shirt. On his left arm was a tattoo that I only saw small glimpses of before. Now it was fully visible: beautifully stylized letters that read SEMPER FIDELIS enclosed in a thin, long banner-like flag. It started somewhere on top of his shoulder and wrapped itself around his bicep, ending on the underside of it. As his muscles moved, the flag seemed to float. It was a fascinating, meticulously done tattoo.

I stared at it, mesmerized, knowing what it meant: ALWAYS FAITHFUL, the Marine Corps motto. There was so much about this Jack that seemed different from the Jack I knew. I started to realize that I wanted to understand who he became over the years. I wanted to know the person who sat in front of me. But in order to do that, I had to stop thinking of him as a violent, unpredictable teenager. Those years were long gone, and I had a strong feeling that this unfortunate part of his personality was eradicated for good. The only way to be sure was to keep my mind open, to observe, and investigate, and I wanted to do that—to find out who he truly was.

Jack was looking at me while I kept staring at his Marine tattoo, engrossed in my thoughts. “Willow?” his gentle voice brought me back to reality. He put his arms down and leaned over the table with his elbows propped on each side of his plate.

“I’m sorry. I got lost in my thoughts,” I said sheepishly.

He nodded. “I noticed. But you asked me a question, and I would like to give you my answer.”

This time it was me who put the fork down to fully concentrate on what I was about to hear.

“I’m not good with words, {Willow}, so it might be difficult for me to express what I want you to know. If there is anything you would like me to elaborate on, just say it.”

I started to feel anxious all over again. Maybe I feared what I was about to learn.

“I don’t want to let the mistakes of my past influence my future. And God knows how many mistakes I’ve made. The key is to learn from them, not to dwell on them, and definitely not to repeat them.” Jack expression was earnest, his brows knitted together, his bright blue eyes focused on me. “Does that make sense?”

“So you’re trying to get back on track.” I nodded.

“The truth is I’ve never been on right track in the past. Quite the opposite—there has never been track to get back on, so I had to invent it and own it. I think I got it now.” These weren’t just some fancy words. They were spoken from his heart.

His smile was genuine and gentle, but there were some underlying strong emotions in his eyes. I saw anguish and regret. He looked away for a moment as to compose himself, and when our eyes met again, there was also pain and a flicker of embarrassment in them.

That, in turn, triggered a downpour of my own feelings: the sadness about our long gone love, the uncertainty for the future, and the confusion about what I really felt and wanted now. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t eager to explore them at this very moment. I required time to fully understand and prepare myself for what I needed.

I smiled at him. “For someone who’s not good with words, you explained it pretty well.”

Excerpt

“I don’t know what you want me to do,” I said, but my voice was nearly gone, thick with the fear that he was way too close and seemed to think he knew what I wanted. I didn’t want him to know he was right. I don’t know why. My pride was too strong. I’d been this way for so long, I didn’t know how to give in. I didn’t know how to trust.

He opened his mouth, like he wanted to say something else but stopped, and his eyes drifted down to my mouth and held. My breath caught in my throat.

Before I could think to even push him off, his mouth claimed me. He kissed me hard enough that my head pressed back into the wall. His hands slid back to cup around my jaw to keep me from pulling away. His lips pressed down, mouth parted.

I kissed him back. I don’t know what came over me, but I wanted to feel those promises. I wanted to believe, for the moment, that maybe I could just let go, like he said, and trust that I could be accepted for who I was. Was I just like him? Could I be like that? Could I find a place just for me among these guys and waltz in and be with them? I opened my mouth, inviting him in, just a little.

Like opening the gates, his mouth claimed me again. In every possible place I could think to hide, he found me. My mind blanked out. I didn’t have room for anything else other than him and his kiss that told me everything would be all right. His kiss sank into me over and over again. Lips pressed against mine, tugging at my skin, at heart strings, at my core.

When he finally released my mouth so I could breathe, his lips trailed over my face, across my eyes and my brows.

“Why did it have to be you?” He breathed out as he whispered against my face. “I was hunting a thief, and I found a beautiful wreck.”

Enjoy an excerpt:

I stood there with the horse, petting his velvet nose, trying to absorb his quiet calm to help ease my jangling nerves.

It worked a little, until he returned, striding toward the outdoor arena, looking amazingly sexy in his riding outfit. Suddenly, like he was on a mission, he walked straight up to me. His eyes burned into mine and when he didn’t stop a few feet away, I began to panic.

Because I was suddenly sure he was going to grab me and kiss me.

My lungs froze on a breath. My heart began to race.

And then he stopped right in front of me, inside my bubble and close enough that I could smell him; leather, saddle soap, boy.

I looked up at him. His lips were turned up in a slight smile and then they parted. He reached up toward my face, his eyes taking me in with his usual intensity. My cheeks flushed, but ached for his touch. I licked my dry lips and swallowed, suddenly worried about too much saliva. I did not want to ruin this kiss. My eyes fluttered closed as he leaned in.

Excerpt

The wave was perhaps the greatest in height they’d ever seen. Later, John was sure they’d recount it as being of tidal proportions, hyperbolic as they always were when it came to surfing expeditions. But in truth, he wasn’t even sure how to approach its vastness; he caught the edge of the big, rolling force in an awkward, unbalanced maneuver, yet he evened himself out at once, rising up into a standing position, and coming through the tube with precision.

Zak waited for John to reach their squatting spot once again, then greeted him with a seated bow from atop his board. “Nicely done. But that was great luck, catching a swell that size. Next one’s mine.”

They didn’t have to wait long. The pair ignored a series of smaller waves that rolled past (though, by a normal day’s standards, they would have been worth riding), until a massive upsurge formed within the surf, collecting all of the surrounding water to join its force. Zak was gone before John could give him any encouragement.

John held up his unit, readying its hologramera to capture Zak’s performance. He pressed “record,” but then, a loud beep emanated from underneath him, coming from his surfboard. The sonar screen at the top of his board lit up, depicting a large incoming vessel approaching Zak’s position. John looked up again, but noticed that Zak was alone - there were no other surfers or boats nearby.
