My Review
This series is just amazing. The writing delivered from Jennifer is nearly flawless and so refreshingly original. And while I do not normally enjoy the first person narrative switching back and forth between two people, I have to say that I actually enjoyed being inside both Rema's and Darmik's heads. It really helps to understand exactly what is going on in two different places, and the sacrifices that have to be made by Darmik.
I also feel that I need to address the elephant in the room... The cliff hanger. Yes, I know. They are horrible and the bane of everyone's existences. Authors write them into their stories just to break our hearts right when they start to feel full of love and a happily ever after. I have to admit, though, that I have never read a story with a better written cliff hanger. It isn't horrible, there is just enough closure that you aren't wondering if someone's life is hanging in the balance (coughthefirstbookcough), but you finish the last sentence and just long for one more chapter. Just one! This one was almost heart wrenching. Something amazing is going to happen, and right when the perfect moment strikes something happens to prevent it. Well, it is an uprising/revolution so there is always something waiting to step in and ruin a perfectly good moment. But I digress, had it ended differently with a pretty little bow on top it would not have had the same effect; and that, my friends, is good writing.
Needless to say Jennifer Davis has delivered an amazing story, once again, and I am aching in my chest to get more. You end up emotionally invested in the lives of her characters, they are your closest friends, they are your brothers and sisters, they are you. When something happens to them you can feel their pain in your gut. Fantastic job. Now we just have to wait for the last book. Sigh.
